The beautiful Varian Thorny Oyster is closely related to the scallop and lives permanently attached to corals or rocks.

The shell comes as two halves making it an ideal hidey hole for jewellery or small trinkets.
With their flower-like appearance thorny oysters are sometimes known as Chrysanthemum Shells. The species (Spondylus Varians) is commonly found in the waters of the the Philippines.
There is a natural colour variation between shells from full white to those with touches of red and orange.
