terms & conditions for shoppers
Making a purchase could not be easier. Just browse our store, and click on the “add to basket” button for any items that you wish to buy, and they will be placed into your shopping basket. You will then be able to modify the order quantities.
After you have finished your selection, click the “Checkout” button for payment options. If you get stuck, please call us on 01460 258970 (Mon-Fri 9.30-4.30) for help. Don't forget you can always place your order by phone if you prefer.
Starting at only £2.50 our standard delivery charges are based on final order weight. Although many of our products are heavy, our maximum delivery & packing fee is £4.95 for UK orders (many items have free delivery).
We aim to pack & despatch your order within 24 hours of receipt and for the items to arrive with UK customers within 7 working days (typically 2-4 days) subject to stock availability. During busy periods we will endeavour to inform you if there are any delays. Please note a signature may be required on delivery.
We are also able to offer a UK Next Day trackable service for urgent orders to mainland England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland (Northern Ireland and some highland postcodes may take 2 days)
This option is available from £6.95 - £9.95 on orders placed Monday to Friday no later than 12 midday from receipt of payment.
Selecting Next Day delivery after this time will mean your package will be dispatched the following day for delivery the next working day. Please be aware that weekend deliveries are not possible with our Next Day service, therefore if selected on a Friday your package will be delivered on Monday (or the next working day in the case of a bank holiday).
international delivery (including Channel Islands)
Starting at only £3.70 our delivery charges are based on final order weight.
We dispatch many orders overseas, ensure items are well packed and use reputable courier services.
International deliveries on average take between 3-8 days to arrive, but some shipments can take up to 2 weeks and possibly longer depending on their end destination. We are therefore unable to guarantee a specific arrival/delivery date for overseas deliveries.
The prices shown on our website include 20% UK VAT (value added tax). For delivery to destinations outside of the EU this Tax will be removed and you may be liable to the import duties and taxes of your own country.
Please note that we have no control over these charges and cannot predict their amount. Please contact your local customs office for further information before placing your order.
You will be liable for all duties and levies payable at any foreign port as a result of delivery of goods outside of the UK. You shall not be entitled to cancel your order beyond acceptance of our terms on the basis of unforeseen duties or levies. Should the goods be impounded for any reason by the Authorities of the country to which sent, payment of those duties are the recipients’ responsibilities.
All gifts sent through our International delivery services are insured for loss or damage in transit, unfortunately carriage costs are not, so if for whatever reason the goods are not accepted by the recipient, not collected when/where required or returned to sender then these costs are entirely at your own risk.
We are not responsible for the reliability or otherwise of overseas postal/courier services.
All transactions are made in British Pounds Sterling and the exchange rate is calculated by the payment card provider at time of transaction.
Please note that any refunds to overseas orders will be done in British Pounds Sterling for the exact amount charged by us in Pounds Sterling.
Buy the Sea cannot be held responsible for any variations in exchange rates and consequent loss of currency as a result of any such changes. We strongly recommend our customers to consider this before placing and confirming any overseas orders.
When parcels travel we are charged not only for the weight of the parcel but also for the amount of space the parcel takes up. In order to charge correctly for the weight and size of an item, carriers have developed an international volume to weight calculation. For some parcel sizes and destinations we may need to contact you for additional delivery charges. Where this happens you will be given the opportunity to accept or decline your order.
Please contact us firstname.lastname@example.org if you want to check timing or costs of delivery; we'll be very happy to help.
If an item you have ordered should become unexpectedly out of stock, we will back order the item for you. You will always be emailed with the option to cancel your order if you would rather not wait, particularly if the item was selected for a special occasion. Our delivery charge applies only once to an order. If any items become out of stock there will be no additional fee for posting them on at a later date.
We have every confidence in our products; however, if you are in anyway dissatisfied with your purchase you may return it to us within 7 days of receipt for a refund or replacement (for hygiene reasons we regret that earrings for pierced ears are non-returnable).
In the first instance please email us at email@example.com within 7 working days of receipt of the goods detailing reason for return and providing name and order number.
The goods must be in their original condition with packaging and labels intact. Returns should be sent by post to Buy the Sea, 34 East Street, Ilminster, Somerset TA19 0AN (at the buyer’s expense). We regret that postage can only be refunded if the item is faulty. In the event of goods arriving damaged or not as ordered, please inform us within 24 hours, and we will be happy to replace them.
Once payment has been confirmed, we are unable to cancel an order. If you are unhappy with the goods once they have been received, please follow the returns procedure above.
We take your security very seriously at Buy the Sea, and have therefore implemented online payments through Barclaycard, an industry leader with a strong reputation regarding security. Barclays automatically encrypts your confidential information in transit from your computer to theirs, using the Secure Sockets Layer protocol (SSL) with an encryption key length of 128-bits (the highest level commercially available).
This means store pages are uploaded to a secure area of a web server that is heavily guarded both physically and electronically, to control access. When customers are submitting data over an SSL connection (shown by the golden padlock or golden key appearing in the browser window), nobody else on the Internet will be able to read what they are typing in. This prevents the interception of credit card numbers as they are entered. So secure that even we don't see your card details!
To increase the security of Internet transactions Visa and MasterCard have recently introduced 3D- Secure (like an on-line version of Chip and PIN). Depending on the card you have chosen to use, when you click on Proceed you may be asked by your card issuer for further authentication.
As regards computer viruses, our computer system is protected by the very latest anti-virus software, which is automatically updated every four hours. The system is further protected by a firewall, so you can be sure that you are in safe hands!
We collect only the basic personal details required to process your order and to enhance our relationship with you. We may from time to time send you newsletters and details of offers and promotions we are running. You may of course unsubscribe simply by emailing us. We will not release your name, address, email address or any other information about our customers to any outside party. We will not trade, resell, sell, or redistribute information that you provide to us, to any other companies, organisations or individuals. Our security measures encrypt information while it is being transmitted across the Internet so that unauthorised people cannot read it.

This is to confirm that the seashells and shell products supplied at Buy the Sea are all collected from a naturally sustainable resource and are either a by-product of local food gathering, or naturally available, such as flotsam brought in by the tide.
