The clam is a wonderfully tactile shell that comfortably nestles with the palms. As with many species of shell it reveals an amazing array of glistening colours now the outer layers have been removed and polished.
This creamy mother of pearl shell is composed of two halves.
The clam belongs to the same family of marine bivalves as oyster and mussel shells and is commonly washed up on beaches. Freshwater species can sometimes be found along the flood plains of rivers.
Common worldwide.
