As with many species of abalone the Paua shell reveals an amazing array of glistening colours now the outer layers have been removed and polished.
 
Vibrant peacock blues, purples and sea greens shimmer on these popular shells which can be found in the waters around New Zealand.  
 
Paua is the Maori word for abalone.
