Kikoys
The Traditional Kikoy from Kenya.
dress, skirt, scarf, stole, cover-up and shawl – all in one.
In Kenya men traditionally wear the “kikoy” as a wrap-around skirt for special occasions; for prayers, at weddings and on feast days. Outside Kenya the genuine kikoy is very rare indeed, but it can actually be one of the most versatile garments in your suitcase.
Both decorative and functional.
Wrap it round you to make a skirt or dress. The strong fabric stays in place amazingly well, even without a clasp. Use it to decorate your home, like a throw. Simply bundle it up and pop it into your handbag. On the beach it will serve as a cover-up, or even as a towel. And when it gets cooler, it will keep you warm worn as a stole. There are many cotton squares around, but a genuine kikoy made in Kenya is always expensively colour-woven with intricate hand-knotted tassels.
With inspiration from traditional designs, they are woven from the finest East African cotton, using modern colourfast dyes. They keep their brilliant colours yet get softer with each wash.
