In folk lore they have long been regarded as a magic charm affording protection against the powers of evil and witchcraft, and bringing luck and good fortune to those who possess them.
They are also known by a variety of other names: holy stones hex, witch and fairy stones.
On the Dorset coast, even up until the1940's, hag stones were still tied to the bow of fishing boats to protect them from storms and as charms to ward off evil spirits that might prevent a good catch.
Individually made by Marina Morris and inspired by the sea-sculpted wood she finds, her art is completely absorbed in the richness of the natural world which never fails to capture her imagination.
Producing simple decorative works of art she successfully captures the coast with an uncomplicated naivety.
