Flying Curlew Sculpture

Elegantly caught in mid flight these hand carved wooden curlews make a wonderful sculptural display. 

The colour and patina of this wood carving has been skilfully realised.

With its slender down curved bill the Curlew can probe deeply into the mud in estuaries and salt marshes.

Its distinctive cry, which echoes its name, is unmistakable once identified and thereafter always reminiscent of the empty places this bird inhabits.

In spring the bird’s territorial call is a bubbly rising crescendo of notes, which can be heard over its upland breeding grounds.

Simple, elegant decoration beautifully hand carved and painted.
