Common Button Top Shells
These pretty tiny shells come in an amazing array of colours and patterns.
Gathered from far off tropical beaches the button tops are found lying just beneath the sandy surface.
In the Philippines they are commonly gathered as food where traditional market vendors provide the buyers with aromatic thorns from the Acacia to pry the meat out.
The common button top (umbonium vestiarum) shell is a common species in waters throughout the Indo Pacific.
