A graceful hand carved Avocet with upturned bill sweeping the water for food.
The avocet feeds on small invertebrates, which it can sift out of the water by moving its bill from side to side.
This graceful bird with its striking black and white plumage only started to re-colonise our shores towards the end of the twentieth century.
The tiny population continues to expand spreading the species slowly northward.
Simple, elegant decoration beautifully hand carved and painted.
